Minecraft 26.2 Chaos Cubed is now available

Minecraft 26.2 is now available as a final release

Minecraft 26.2 Chaos Cubed launched as a final release on June 16, 2026. The release maps to Minecraft Java 26.2 and Minecraft Bedrock 26.30. This free update is available now for all players, both in singleplayer and in multiplayer across servers and Realms.

After weeks of testing and snapshots, it is finally time to prepare your server for a smooth transition. If you have already prepared for this update with our Minecraft 26.2 update checklist, the final steps are simple: back up your data, check plugin and mod compatibility, and gradually expand your world’s boundaries.

This trailer sets the stage for a release focused on pure fun and creative chaos.

The mood of this release is strongly underground: Sulfur Cubes at the center of the new caves, surrounded by spikes and glowing yellow blocks.

What Minecraft 26.2 actually adds

This update centers on several key features: a new creature with dynamic behaviors, a unique underground biome, vibrant building blocks, and integrated social improvements.

The Sulfur Cube, a physical and reactive companion

The Sulfur Cube is a passive mob that spawns in the depths. It follows players carrying blocks it can ingest, picks up items from the ground, and changes its physical properties and behaviors based on what it has absorbed: it can slide on ice, bounce, float, become a moving explosive charge (with TNT), or inflict contact fire damage (with magma).

Another strong example: with Blue Ice, the cube can become a makeshift engine for chaotic movement.

The Sulfur Caves

This new underground biome features colorful areas with veins of sulfur and cinnabar, cave spiders, and wild Sulfur Cubes. Explorers will need to navigate this winding network of caves with care.

Potent Sulfur and geysers

Pools of potent sulfur generate at the bottom of these caves, emitting noxious gas that inflicts a Nausea effect. Above the caves, sulfur springs and geysers shoot players, monsters, and Sulfur Cubes into the air.

Surface geysers can also launch several cubes at once.

New Sulfur and Cinnabar block sets

Builders gain two full families of decorative blocks (stairs, slabs, walls, polished, and brick variants) to design unique yellow and red structures. The update also includes a new music disc titled Bounce alongside new background tracks composed by fingerspit.

Cinnabar also works well for more architectural builds, from chimneys to red-accented houses.

Sulfur and cinnabar blocks can create warm-looking builds, especially when paired with a glowing Sulfur Cube.

Social Improvements (Java & Bedrock)

On the Java version, a new Friends List system makes its debut directly within the game menus (alongside experimental Vulkan support). For Bedrock players, the new Parties (Groups) feature allows console and PC players to stay grouped with a persistent text chat and travel together easily between worlds and servers.

What server admins should check

If you run an active community, chunk generation is the main technical aspect to monitor. Sulfur Caves will not rewrite terrain that players have already explored; they will only appear in chunks generated after the update. If all your players rush out to explore at once, expect CPU spikes and TPS drops.

Before deploying the update, we recommend taking these steps:

  • Perform a full backup of your worlds right before updating.
  • Test version 26.2 on a separate copy or test instance.
  • Check build compatibility for Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge, as well as your essential plugins, mods, datapacks, and resource packs.
  • Set up access to the new biomes by expanding your worldborder, creating a temporary exploration world, or setting up a dedicated zone.
  • Pre-generate exploration zones if your community is likely to race toward the new biome on day one.

On Java, technical pack formats are also evolving: Data Pack 107.1 and Resource Pack 88.0. If you use custom world generators, datapacks, or forced server resource packs, make sure to test them before the public launch.

Details worth catching in game

The Sulfur Cube is undoubtedly the most fun and interactive feature of this update. For example, cherry wood makes it very fast and bouncy, magma raises contact danger, and TNT turns it into a mobile explosive charge to be handled with care. Small cubes can grow when fed slime balls, larger ones can be carried directly in a bucket, and dispensers can interact with the block carried by the cube, such as shearing it off to retrieve it.

Minecart interactions also open the door to more mechanical scenes, especially inside Sulfur Caves and around portals.

With TNT, the cube becomes a moving charge best kept for arenas, minigames, or controlled experiments.

The possibilities for experimentation are endless: by absorbing blue ice, the cube slides with near-zero friction. Players can use this to race each other or even set up improvised football matches using bouncy cubes as balls:

The new Sulfur Caves biome introduces several new hazards. The gas emitted by potent sulfur inflicts a nausea effect, geysers launch entities upward, and sulfur spikes behave differently from traditional dripstone: the danger isn’t walking on them, but rather their sudden fall from the cave ceiling.

Some underground areas can be flooded, forcing you to swim through sharp sulfur spikes in the company of glow squids:

On Java, the new Friends List is available from the title screen and pause menu, with fine-grained settings to manage visibility, requests, and notifications. The Vulkan renderer is experimental: if players report visual bugs or framerate drops, advise them to set the Graphics API option back to Default or Prefer OpenGL before investigating server-side issues. On Bedrock dedicated servers, note that the allow list is now enabled by default in server.properties, which will trigger a warning at startup if it remains empty.

Our recommended rollout plan

For an active community, avoid rushed updates. A successful rollout follows a simple checklist: complete backup, update the instance, restart, analyze console logs, run restricted tests with a few members, and finally open the server to everyone.

Once the server is running, monitor TPS, check console logs for plugin/mod loading errors, custom dimensions, datapacks, automated commands, and new chunk generation. If your survival world has been active for a long time, setting up a temporary exploration world is a great way to prevent players from traveling tens of thousands of blocks to generate new biomes, which would unnecessarily bloat your server’s storage.

In short, Minecraft 26.2 is the perfect opportunity to revive community activity, whether through exploration, sulfur and cinnabar building contests, or Sulfur Cube minigames.
